These four bladed cutters do not eject the plugs they cut – the plug remains in the board and can be broken out with a chisel or the board can be sawn to free the plug.
These plugs cut rapidly and make a smooth chamfered plug that you can start easily in a counterbored hole. Blades can be opened for larger plugs or they can be closed for smaller plugs.
Carbon Steel – If you are cutting softwood or just a few holes in hardwoods or plastics, Carbon Steel is your answer. Most New Zealand native timbers are considered softwood.
The tools WL Fuller manufacture from Carbon Steel are heat treated to 62c hardness and cannot be sharpened with a file. A stone type of grinding wheel is required to re-sharpen them.
